Domain Name

What is a domain name? Let me put it simply, it is the website address that your visitors will use to go to your site. Example: http://txtbased.com. Sometimes you may see domain name referred to as a URL, so for the purpose of this post they’re basically the same thing.

It is very important for you to know how to register your domain name when the time comes. There are websites like Hostgator and Google that offer very simple domain registration that you can use to register your domain at. The whole process of purchasing the domain name is fairly simple; if you have ever purchased anything online the registration process is almost identical.

Now that we have told you how to register your domain we will discuss how do you choose the right domain name. There really isn’t a right domain name, only you can decide what name to choose that is most relevant to your company. Since we cannot chose the name for you we will give you a couple of tips to keep in mind when choosing a domain name.

  • Choose a name that’s unique or one of a kind( try to stay away from a name that is very similar to other companies since you want to stand out from the competition not blend in).
  • Try to pick a name that is catchy and easy to remember( stay away from misspelling words and try to not go over 20 characters).
  • Try to stick to “.com” as the suffix if it is available if its a commercial website and if it’s a non-profit try to use “.org”. If for some reason “.com” is not available, do not freak out. You can try to choose a different extension or try to change your domain name a bit to something that is available.
